According to details, the incident occurred after Iftar when the militants attempted to breach the cantonment’s defences.
The terrorists, heavily armed and driving vehicles laden with explosives, tried to ram into the walls of Bannu Cantonment.
Moreover, the security forces responded swiftly, killing six of the extremists at various entry points. The remaining attackers were encircled, forcing them into a defensive position.
In the course of the attack, the explosives-packed vehicles detonated, causing significant damage to a nearby mosque. The explosion also led to the collapse of a nearby residential roof, resulting in civilian casualties, including both injuries and fatalities.
Security sources said that the clearance operation would continue until all militants in the area were eliminated.
