FAISALABAD: South Africa easily defeated Pakistan by 8 wickets in the second match of the three-match One Day International (ODI) series, leveling the series at 1-1.
South Africa chased down a target of 270 runs comfortably in 40.1 overs with 2 wickets remaining.
The match was played at Iqbal Cricket Stadium in Faisalabad. Pakistan won the toss and elected to bat first against the visiting South African team.
Pakistan scored 269 runs for 9 wickets in their 50 overs. Salman Agha scored 69 and Mohammad Nawaz contributed 59 runs, making them the top performers.
Pakistan’s Innings:
South Africa’s bowlers dismantled Pakistan’s top order. Opener Fakhar Zaman was out for zero, while Babar Azam scored 11 and Mohammad Rizwan scored 4, all returning to the pavilion early.
After losing three wickets, Salman Ali Agha and Saim Ayub played responsible innings, forming partnerships and both scoring half-centuries.
However, Saim scored 53 and Salman Ali Agha 69 before getting out, while Hussain Talat departed at a score of 10.
In the final overs, Mohammad Nawaz and Fahim Ashraf batted responsibly. Nawaz scored 59 and Fahim Ashraf 28, both getting out towards the end.
Pakistan finished with 269 runs for 9 wickets in their 50 overs.
South Africa’s Innings:
South Africa comfortably chased the target of 270 runs, achieving it in the 41st over with 8 wickets in hand.
Quinton de Kock remained not out after scoring 123 runs, while Rassie van der Dussen contributed 76 and Pretorius scored 46.
