South Africa Take 1-0 Lead By Beating India From 31 Runs

Paarl: An all-round display led by Rassie van der Dussen and Temba Bavuma centuries helped South Africa beat India by 31 runs in the first ODI in Paarl.

With the win, the Proteas took a 1-0 lead in the 3-match series. The second ODI will be played at the same venue on Friday.

That was a high-quality all-round performance from the Proteas. Skipper Temba Bavuma (110) and Rassie van der Dussen (129*) first played solid hands with the bat — notching up respective centuries and then the bowlers struck in unison to restrict India for 265 for 8 in 297 chase.

India started off pretty well in the chase but after the wickets of Shikhar Dhawan (79) and Virat Kohli (51) the middle order completely crumbled. Shardul Thakur (50) showed fight towards the end and remains unbeaten at the end alongside Jasprit Bumrah (14).

It was a disappointing effort with both bowl and bat from India. The second ODI will now take place on Friday and India will look for a much-improved performance in the second encounter if they are to bounce back in this series!
