Islamabad: Speaker National Assembly (NA) Sardar Ayaz Sadiq has convened an in camera meeting of the Parliamentary Committee on National Security tomorrow.
The Speaker has convened the meeting on the advice of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif.
The PM will chair the meeting at 11 am.Earlier it has been called at 1:30 pm owing to sacred month of Ramadan later timing of the meeting changed.
The military leadership will brief the parliamentary committee on the current security situation.
In addition to the cabinet members, the parliamentary leaders of all political parties present in the parliament and their nominated representatives will participate in the meeting.
The meeting is being called in response to the recent surge in terrorist activities in the northwestern and southwestern regions of Pakistan. This includes multiple high-profile attacks on security forces and public infrastructure.
The National Action Plan, introduced in 2014, aims to counter terrorism through a comprehensive framework, including the regulation of madrassas, blocking terrorist financing, and improving law enforcement capabilities. However, growing concerns about the resurgence of militant activities have led to calls for a revised and more robust plan.
Sources suggest that the committee may also deliberate on enhancing coordination between federal and provincial agencies to combat terrorism more effectively. The proposal for National Action Plan II seeks to address gaps in the original framework and adapt to evolving security challenges.
It remains to be seen whether the government will announce new policy measures following the meeting, but insiders indicate that there is growing consensus on adopting a more aggressive approach toward militant groups operating within Pakistan’s borders.
