Speaker’s ruling : Shah convenes opposition parties’ meeting

Opposition Leader in the National Assembly Syed Khurshid Shah convened a meeting of opposition parties’ leaders to be held on Thursday to discuss the issue of Panama Papers’ leaks and rejection of reference against Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif by Speaker National Assembly Sardar Ayaz Sadiq.

Parliamentary Leader of PTI in the National Assembly Shah Mehmood Qureshi called on Khurshid Shah and discussed with him the partisan attitude of NA Speaker in rejecting reference against the Prime Minister for his alleged involvement in Panama Leaks’ scandal.  During the meeting it was decided to convene the meeting of opposition parties to discuss the Speaker’s attitude and Panama issue.

Shah said that NA Speaker did not divulge the reasons based on which he rejected the opposition parties’ references against the Prime Minister.  He said that Speaker NA should have respect for the office of Speaker and must be neutral. He said that as per their view Speaker’s neutrality was necessary for government’s sustenance.  He said that he had convened opposition parties’ meeting on Thursday to deliberate over the partisan attitude of the Speaker National Assembly. He said that they would work out their strategy against the NA Speaker’s ruling as per law and constitution during Thursday’s meeting.

Talking to media after the meeting, Quraishi said that PTI raised the Panama issue therefore it was being targeted.  He said that those were made to stand trial whose name was not in the Panama Papers’ leak. “Everywhere there is bias including at Speaker Office and Election Commission of Pakistan against PTI and they had left with no other option except going to the masses,” he added.
