Lahore: A special central court (SCC)has acquitted Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif and his son Hamza Shahbaz Sharif in the money laundering case.
A judge of the SCC Aijaz Hassain Aiwan today pronounced reserved verdict of the case.
The court in its verdict said that to run the money laundering case against Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif and Hamza Shahbaz will be the waste of the time.
Shahbaz Sharif and his son Hamza Shahbaz links with the off-shore accounts not proved, the court said.
The court approved petitions of acquittal of father and son duo. The court said that the evidences and facts in the FIA challan are not enough adding that the running the case will be waste of time.
The counsel of father-son duo, Amjad Pervez contended that the FIA made the case on the basis of dishonesty adding that no amount brought in the accounts of Shahbaz Sharif and Hamza Shahbaz.
On the court query, the FIA prosecutor told the court no amount brought in directly in the account of Shahbaz Sharif and Hamza Shahbaz and not any amount withdrew.
The FIA had presented the case challan in the court on March 2022. While the accused remained on interim bail for a year and three months .. The FIA submitted the challan of Rs 16 billion in which as many as 100 witnesses were nominated.
Two Accused In The Case Died
Suleman Shahbaz, Tahir Naqvi and Maqsood Malik have been declared absconders. Among the accused Malik Maqsood and Gulzar have died.
JIT Chief Passes Away During Investigation
Joint Investigation Team (JIT) chief of the case Dr Rizwan has also passed away during investigation of the case.
First Prosecutor Complains Court Against FIA Over Stopping Him To Pursue Case Effectively
The first prosecutor in the case Sikandar Sultan had sent a letter to the court over stopping him by the FIA from an effectively fighting the case.
