Speed Limits Fixed on Karachi’s Main Roads

KARACHI: Deputy Inspector General (DIG) of Traffic Police, Pir Muhammad Shah, has announced that speed limits have been set for all main roads in Karachi.

According to Shah, the speed limit for motorcycles and light transport vehicles (LTVs) has been fixed at 60 kilometres per hour, while for heavy transport vehicles (HTVs) it has been set at 30 kilometres per hour.

He further stated that speed-monitoring systems equipped with cameras are being installed across the city to track vehicle speeds. Additionally, trackers are being fitted in 10,000 heavy vehicles, which will be connected to the Traffic Regulation and Citation System (TRACS) for real-time monitoring.

Speaking to The Express Tribune on Saturday, Shah said that TRACS has become operational in 40% of the city and is currently linked to 1,717 cameras.
