Sri Lanka refuses U.S. request to station Warplanes

Colombo: Sri Lanka has declined a request from the United States to station its military aircraft at a local airport, according to an official statement.

Speaking in parliament, Sri Lankan President Anura Kumara Dissanayake said that the U.S. had requested earlier in March to deploy two warplanes at Mattala International Airport.

The president revealed that the aircraft were equipped with anti-ship missiles and were planned to be transferred from a U.S. base in Djibouti to Sri Lanka.

“We clearly rejected the American request,” President Dissanayake told lawmakers.

It is worth noting that several U.S. allied countries have also recently declined to participate in a potential conflict against Iran. Previously, U.S. President Donald Trump had expressed frustration over the lack of support, stating that the United States does not need assistance from others.
