Supply suspension, low gas pressure prevail as gas crisis worsens

KARACHI: Issues of supplies to CNG filling stations and low gas pressure faced by domestic consumers signalled rise in gas crisis across the country.

Supplies to Combined Natural Gas (CNG) filling stations were closed for more 12 hours while the stations will now be opened at 8:00pm on Saturday (today).

Whereas, domestic consumers were facing low gas pressure causing difficulties to run household tasks, as well as operating gas heaters during ongoing winter season.

The situation prevails across the country as closure of CNG supplies for tw-three days became a routine in the metropolis Karachi.

Unending miseries following gas shortage doubled after latest hike in the price of Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) by Rs6 per kilogramme from February by the Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (Ogra) yesterday. The authority has increased the locally produced LPG price by Rs65.93 per cylinder of 11.8kg.

After the revised prices, the cylinder would be sold in open market at Rs1,427.63, which was available for Rs1,361.70 in the last month. While, the per metric tonne (MT), LPG rate has been fixed at Rs120,986.38 for the month of February. The commodity sale price for per MT was set at Rs115,399.14 during the previous month.
