ISLAMABAD: Federal Minister for Petroleum Musadik Malik has stated that LNG will be supplied to domestic consumers, leading to rising prices and reduced demand.
Musadik Malik has said that domestic consumers are being supplied with gas, while the remaining gas is being provided to industries. He added that when LNG was procured, it was decided that it would be supplied to the power sector.
He explained that when gas is purchased at a high price and sold at a lower rate, prices inevitably increase after six months. Pipeline gas is also becoming more expensive, and gas prices are expected to continue rising.
Malik noted that as LNG prices rise, the burden on consumers will increase. Currently, 66 to 70 percent of gas consumers receive subsidies.
He reiterated that supplying LNG to domestic consumers will result in higher prices and reduced demand.
