Supremacy of Parliament Move: PML-N Seeks PPP Support  

Islamabad (February 22, 2018): Pakistan Muslim League Nawaz on Thursday once again reached out to the Pakistan People’s Party for its support in a move to ensure the supremacy of parliament. The move came after the apex court on Wednesday disqualified the former prime minister from heading PML-N head post.

According to sources, the Governor Punjab Rafiq Rajwana and Sardar Mehtab on Thursday met former prime minister and PPP leader Yousuf Raza Gillani and discussed the situation in the aftermath of the removal of Nawaz Sharif as the PML-N head and other issues of mutual interest.The sources said that PML-N delegation conveyed a special message to Asif Ali Zardari from Nawaz Sharif, which asked for the PPP support for the supremacy of the parliament.

The former primer assured to respond back after deliberations within the party.

It is pertinent to mention here that former president Asif Ali Zardari on Wednesday said that all the parties should respect the Supreme Court verdict that disqualified former premier Nawaz Sharif as the head of the ruling Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz.

Zardari said it was the duty of everyone to respect the top court’s decision. He said that confrontation with institutions of the state would be counterproductive, undermine democracy and must be avoided.

Earlier in the day, the Supreme Court disqualified Nawaz Sharif as president of the ruling PML-N in its verdict regarding petitions against Election Act, 2017.
