Supreme Court stops implementation on SC bill 2023 till next order

Islamabad: Supreme Court of Pakistan (SCP) has stopped implementation on the Supreme Court practice and procedure bill 2023 until the next order through an interim order.

The SC heard petitions against the Supreme Court practice and procedure bill 2023 after which the order was issued.

The SC has issued an order containing a 8-page over today’s hearing in the top court which is written by honourble Chief Justice Umar Atta Bandiyal.

The order said that three petitions were fixed for hearing against the SC practice and procedure act 2023. Apparently the act is intervention in the independence and internal matter of the judiciary and during this issuing of an interim order is necessary.

As per the order the hearing against the SC practice and procedure bill 2023 will be held on May 2. Issuing of prohibition order is necessary to avoid irreparable risk. President sign it or not, it will not be implemented in both the cases until the next order

The order said that the top court is worried over judiciary and specially the institutional independence of the Supreme court, under this for public interest and for basic human rights the SC intervention is needed. While the political parties can become respondent through their counsels.

As per the order there is no way out except stopping the implementation through the interim order. The order reads that the intervention in the independence of judiciary will start as the bill becomes the part of the law.

” Intervention conducted through various means in the independence of judiciary, apparently intervention happened in the independence of the judiciary” order reads.

The order also said that the court can’t suspend any law.
