SWAT: A tragic incident occurred this morning near Mingora Bypass along the Swat River, where 17 tourists were swept away and drowned due to intense flooding and swift water currents.
According to a statement issued by the Regional Information Office of Swat, in response to public concern and the gravity of the situation, Deputy Commissioner Swat has immediately formed an inquiry committee to conduct a thorough investigation into the incident. The committee will review all facts and, if any negligence or misconduct is found, appropriate legal action will be taken against responsible individuals.
The statement added that recent heavy rains had raised water levels in the Swat River; however, the water levels have now significantly decreased. During this time, all administrative officers, including Assistant Commissioners and Additional Assistant Commissioners, remained in the field under the special instructions of the Deputy Commissioner to oversee rescue and relief operations.
Police, Rescue 1122, TMA, Irrigation Department, WSSC, and other relevant agencies remained on high alert, utilizing all available resources to carry out emergency relief activities in affected areas. Immediate measures were taken to evacuate people from dangerous locations.Furthermore, a medical emergency has been declared at the District Headquarter Hospital in Sido Sharif to handle any contingencies. The hospital staff is fully prepared and equipped with all necessary facilities to provide prompt medical assistance to those affected.
