Taliban Attack in Paktia: 21 Insurgents Killed in Clash

Kabul (September 04, 2018): At least 21 Taliban have been killed during the clash between Afghan army and Taliban fighters.

Paktia Governor office said that the clash between army and Taliban happened at midnight, on Tuesday. Authorities said that the incident broke out at midnight in the Janikhel district, when Taliban attacked the security check post.Clash went on till about 8 am. Authorities told that more than 20 insurgents were killed during the gun battle. Taliban attack injured at least six military men and killing four others in the ensuing battle.

No one immediately claimed responsibility for the attack, but Taliban insurgents are active in the province and often launch attacks against security forces. Taliban spokesman, claimed responsibility for the attack. In a statement, he claimed that fighters took control of the entire district.The office said that during the Taliban’s clash the militants suffered heavy casualties and repelled the attack.

Meanwhile, Taj Mohammad Mangal, a Paktia provincial council member, said that a local police check post collapsed to the Taliban in Kotkai area of Janikhel district of Pakita province but did not give information on causalities.
