ISLAMABAD: The Trading Corporation of Pakistan (TCP) has officially invited bids for the import of another 100,000 metric tons of sugar.
Following directives from Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, the entire tender process was broadcast live on PTV to maintain transparency. Representatives from five companies participated in the tender opening, which was also attended by a representative from Transparency International.
TCP’s General Manager, Shiraz Ali Shahzad, conducted the tender opening in front of all attendees. The Pakistani government has undertaken this import initiative to meet domestic sugar demand and help stabilize market prices.
Previously, on August 21, TCP had opened bids for the import of 200,000 metric tons of sugar. The government continues to coordinate the import of sugar through TCP, with recent bids invited on September 8 for an additional 100,000 tons to ensure sufficient supply and price stability in the market.
