Tense confrontation at Punjab Assembly during KP CM Sohail Afridi’s visit

LAHORE: A brief but intense altercation erupted at the Punjab Assembly on Friday amid the visit of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Sohail Afridi, raising questions about security arrangements at the provincial legislature.

Sources indicate that the clash took place when the security team accompanying the KP chief minister engaged in a physical confrontation with Punjab Assembly guards. The scuffle, which involved pushing and heated exchanges, occurred on the assembly stairs as a large crowd gathered, leading to chaos and logistical challenges.

Security forces from both sides struggled to restore order until police and assembly officials stepped in to de-escalate the situation. Fortunately, no injuries were reported, and the chief minister was unharmed throughout the incident.

The episode has sparked concerns over the adequacy of security protocols during visits by high-ranking officials from other provinces. Officials have assured that enhanced coordination and crowd control measures will be implemented in future visits to prevent similar incidents.

Earlier on the day, Afridi arrived in Lahore and paid a visit to the residence of senior PTI leader Latif Khosa. Supporters warmly welcomed him, with videos circulating showing his vehicle being showered with flowers and supporters cheering as he arrived.
