Terror attack plan foil in Peshawar, suspected suicide bomber, Handler killed

PESHAWAR: Security forces successfully thwarted a terrorist plot in the outskirts of Peshawar, in the Armar Shamshto area, when the Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD) conducted an operation that resulted in the killing of a suspected suicide bomber and his handler.

According to CTD spokespersons, the operation was intelligence-based and targeted individuals linked to Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP). During the raid, authorities eliminated the suspected bomber, identified as Munir Ahmad, along with his handler.

The CTD revealed that the terrorists were allegedly planning a major attack on a sensitive installation. Munir Ahmad, a resident of Nangarhar province in Afghanistan, had been on security agencies’ radar since November 2024. He reportedly crossed from Khost, Afghanistan, into Pakistan.

Officials confirmed that Munir Ahmad was a wanted suspect from Nangarhar, and efforts are ongoing to identify and apprehend his handler. During the operation, security forces recovered a suicide jacket, an SMG, ammunition, and a pistol. A case has been registered regarding the incident, and a specialized investigative team has been formed to probe the matter further.
