Terrorits’ tratment case: Dr Asim, Wasim Akhtar, others indicted

KARACHI: An Anti-Terrorism Court on Saturday indicted Dr Asim Hussain, Anees Qaimkhani, Waseem Akhtar, Rauf Siddiqui, Usman Moazzam  and others in a case for securing medical treatment for terrorists.

The ATC judge read out the charges to the accused former Petroleum Minister and PPP leader Dr Asim Hussain, former PPP MNA Qadri Patel, mayor Karachi Waseem Akhtar, MQM MPA Rauf Sidiqui, PSP President Anees Qaimkhani and Pasban leader Usman Moazzam. They pleaded not guilty.

Dr Asim, who was brought to the court in a wheel chair,  while pleading not guilty said: “Those who have charged me with crime should also be indicted.”

Before the indictment,  Dr. Asim pleaded the court to give him time to read the charge sheet. However, the judge said that these were just charges and it was up to him whether to plead guilty or not.

Upon this, Waseem Akhtar’s counsel said that all the accused will plead non-guiltily jointly after coming out of the court room.’
