Tharparkar children deaths: Sindh Govt blames low birth weight

Karachi (May 11, 2017): Finally giving a number Sindh government has admitted that 98 children died in Tharparkar during January 1 and April 15 this year.

The revelation was made in a report, a copy of which Abb Takk has acquired, submitted by the Sindh government at the Sindh High Court which is hearing a case over the deaths of children in Tharparkar.

Attributing ‘low birth weight’ as the cause of cause of deaths of most children the report also blame marriage at young age a major issue. Shortage of doctors and lack of medical facilities in Tharparkar are also called an obstacle to access to medical treatment in Tharparkar.

The Sindh government’s report also blamed non-functional Sindh Public Service Commission for remaining job positions remaining unfilled. The report also lamented about lack of four-wheel drive ambulances in Tharparkar.

The Sindh government also accepted that there is an acute lack of facilities for the pregnant women at the health centres in Tharparkar.

Blaming social customs the report said that most of the children die premature or low weight at the time of birth.

The Sindh government also lamented that media print/telecast the news about children’s death in Tharparakar without verification.
