Islamabad: The Senate elections are likely to be held in the first week of March. The Senate elections will be held immediately after the general elections on February 8, 2024
According to the Sources, 52 of the 100 seats in the Senate will be vacant, of which 48 seats will be up for election. The newly elected members of the National and Provincial Assemblies will elect the senators, the newly elected and half-term senators will elect the chairman and deputy chairman. Chairman and Deputy Chairman elected for three years.
Due to the death of Rana Maqbool and resignation of Anwarul Haq Kakar after becoming the Prime Minister, two seats in the Senate are vacant.
The Senate elections will be held in the first week of March 2024.The timings for submission of nomination papers, preliminary list, scrutiny, objections, appeals and final list will be announced under the schedule.
Senate members are elected for six years in elections held under the Election Commission, the Senate election schedule was released on February 11 and polling was held on March 3.
Members of the Provincial and National Assembly exercise voting rights in Senate elections. Elections to vacant seats in the Senate may be held not later than 30 days before the expiration of the term of office of the members. Article 224 sub-clause 3 of the Constitution.
All four provinces are equally represented in the upper house.
