Three Labourers Die Cleaning Chemical Tank in Karachi

Karachi (September 23, 2017): Five workers drowned, three of them died,  after falling into the chemical tank of a chemical factory on Saturday in Korangi Ibrahim Haideri area when their ladder snapped police said.

A factory worker was rescued by the rescue teams while search operation for the fifth being continued police and rescue workers said.

In all, five technicians were busy in the regular maintenance work in factory when the ladder, that was using for cleanliness, snapped and all the workers fell into the tank.

In the meantime, rescue teams from Edhi and Chhipa arrived at the factory. It took more than five hours to the rescue workers to pull out the bodies of the three workers, said the police official.

The deceased were shifted to hospitals, however their identification was yet to ascertain, however the rescued workers identified as Abubakr, who was rushed to hospital in serious conditions.

Police reached at the spot and has started investigation.

On July 20, Four labourers were killed and another was rescued after they fell unconscious while cleaning a tank in a factory located on the outskirts of the city.

According to the Chhipa Welfare Association, four labourers, identified as Zahoor, Tanvir, Faizan and Faisal, were recovered from a tank in a factory in Ghaghar Phatak.

Earlier, in October last year, three labourers were killed in a similar incident as they fell into a 25 to 30 foot deep chemical tank of Indigo Textile Mills located in the same vicinity.
