Three Pakistanis freed from Indian jails reach home after long detentions

LAHORE:  Three Pakistani nationals who were recently released from Indian jails crossed into Pakistan through the Wagah border on Sunday, where they were received with garlands and a warm welcome.

The individuals Asghar Ali, Ramzan, and Muhammad Idrees were freed after lengthy imprisonments on various charges. According to official sources, the Pakistan High Commission in New Delhi actively pursued their cases and facilitated their repatriation.

Muhammad Idrees, also known as Iqbal, had been incarcerated since 1995 on drug smuggling allegations, spending three decades in an Indian prison. Ramzan, detained in 2010 on similar charges, completed 15 years behind bars. Asghar Ali had been held for illegally entering India and was also released after serving his sentence.

The Pakistan High Commission reiterated its commitment to securing the release of all Pakistani citizens still held in Indian prisons. Hundreds of Pakistanis are believed to remain in detention across India, including many who have already completed their sentences but await repatriation.
