Three policemen martyred in separate attacks across KP

PESHAWAR: Three police personnel, including a Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD) official, were killed in separate incidents of violence in three districts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP), police said on Friday.

In the first incident, armed militants attacked a police checkpost near the boundary of Bajaur and Malakand districts, killing Constable Khaista Ameen Syed.

Police said the constable embraced martyrdom while resisting the attack and defending the checkpost.

In a separate incident in Lakki Marwat, unidentified motorcycle-borne gunmen opened fire on police personnel at Shahbazkhel Adda, killing Constable Mumtaz Khan, who was posted at Shahbazkhel Police Station.

Police said another officer accompanying Mumtaz Khan retaliated, prompting the attackers to escape.

Subsequently, district police, members of the local peace committee and security forces launched a search operation to pursue the assailants. During an exchange of gunfire, two suspected militants affiliated with Fitna al-Khawarij (FAK) were killed, while efforts continued to apprehend three other suspects.

Meanwhile, CTD official Sadiq Zaman was shot dead in the limits of Saddar Police Station in Bannu.

According to police, Zaman was serving in the CTD’s North Waziristan unit and had been on leave at his residence. He was also performing duties as the driver of the SP CTD North Waziristan.

His body was transported to the District Headquarters Hospital, while police initiated an investigation into the killing.

Earlier, on October 26, security forces killed six terrorists during an intelligence-based operation in the Zarkani area of Dera Ismail Khan, while two Pakistan Army soldiers embraced martyrdom, according to the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR).

The military’s media wing said the operation was launched after intelligence reports indicated the presence of Fitna al-Khawarij militants in the area.

Security forces targeted a hideout of what the ISPR described as Indian-sponsored terrorists, eliminating six militants.

During the ensuing intense exchange of fire, Naik Ghulam Murtaza, 36, a resident of Gujrat, and Sepoy Taseer Ahmed, 30, from Talagang, fought bravely and laid down their lives, the statement added.
