Karachi: An administrative negligence has claimed three lives in Karachi as three person of a same family died during cleaning of a sewerage manhole in Usmanabad area of Garden neighborhood of Karachi.
The three sweepers were relatives and lost their lives owing to the negligence of the local bodies institutions during the cleaning of the gutter.
According to the area residents of Usmanabad, all the gutters of the area have been blocked and work for clearing these manholes were underway at night around 2:30 am.
One of the sweeper fainted in the gutter owing to filling of poisonous gas in the manhole. To safe him, his son stepped in the manhole while he also lost his life owing to the poisonous gas.
Later, their son in law tried to safe them but unfortunately he also died.
The citizens apprised that no protective measures were taken during the cleaning of the gutters, neither the sweepers had a rob, nor stairs and no mask or protective costumes were provided to them.
There were two vehicles of Karachi Metropolitan Corporation were available but it could not do any help.
