Torrential Rains Wreak Havoc in Jeddah  

Jeddah (November 22, 2017): Torrential rains on Tuesday wreaked havoc in Jeddah and its suburbs causing massive urban flooding, inundating streets and bringing back the painful memories of the tragedy of 2009.      

“Rain will continue in Jeddah while heavy rain is expected in Makkah and Taif,” said the Saudi General Authority of Meteorology and Environmental Protection. Torrential rain lashed parts of Saudi Arabia on Tuesday forcing authorities to close schools and universities in some parts of the country.In the Makkah region, the directorate announced on Twitter the suspension of classes for the safety of students. Meanwhile, education officials in Taif and Jeddah announced that all schools would remain closed due to heavy rains.Authorities have closed six tunnels in Jeddah that were flooded due to heavy rains. Rain and thunderstorms are expected in the Madinah and Makkah regions, including the coastal areas, as well as the mountains of Jazan, Asir and Baha regions.
