Traffic police enforce complete ban on dumpers, water tankers in Karachi

KARACHI: The Karachi Traffic Police have imposed a full ban on the movement of dumpers and water tankers across the city, DIG Traffic Pir Muhammad Shah announced on Saturday.

The decision comes in the aftermath of the Razzaqabad accident, where a dumper without a tracker system caused a fatal crash, killing a rickshaw driver and injuring several people. A nearby shop and a van were also damaged in the incident.

According to DIG Shah, the prohibition will remain in place until strict compliance with monitoring requirements is ensured. Only those heavy vehicles will be allowed on the roads that not only have trackers installed but have formally granted access to the system to the traffic police.

He noted that although many tankers and dumpers already have tracking devices, their owners have not provided access to law enforcement. “Vehicles that meet all conditions will be permitted to operate only within designated time slots,” he added.

Owners of compliant vehicles have been instructed to contact the traffic police and complete the mandatory access process. DIG Shah cautioned that any dumper or water tanker found operating without an active tracker or without sharing tracker access will be seized during inspections.
