SWAT: Tensions in society continue to escalate as a violent altercation triggered by a dispute among children resulted in one death and seven injuries.
The incident took place in the Shana Karpa Haji Abad area of Swat, where police identified the deceased as Advocate Attaullah Jan. The victim’s body, along with the injured individuals, was transported to a nearby hospital, where they are currently under medical care.Authorities have launched an investigation into the matter, and CCTV footage capturing the violence is now in possession of police.
Meanwhile, in a related development, the Lahore High Court summoned reports from the Punjab Home Secretary and the CCPO during a hearing concerning ongoing issues related to Basant celebrations.
A bench led by Justice Awais Khalid was hearing a petition filed by Advocate Azhar Siddique, which highlighted the fatalities and injuries linked to Basant festivities.
The petition cited official figures indicating six deaths during the festival, alongside over 100 injuries contradicting the government’s claims of safe celebrations.
The petitioner argued that Basant has become a perilous event rather than a festival of joy, with many children suffering injuries from falls from rooftops.
The court was urged to hold responsible the authorities for negligence in ensuring public safety. The hearing was adjourned until February 17, and the court asked for detailed reports on the situation.
