TOBRUK: The International Organization for Migration (IOM) reported that, as a result of the incident, 18 migrants lost their lives, while 50 others remain unaccounted for.
The incident occurred near the coastal city of Tobruk, which is located close to the border with Egypt. According to foreign media reports, Libya has increasingly become a hub for migrants undertaking perilous sea journeys in an attempt to reach Europe.
It is also remembered that several similar boat accidents have happened in Libya in the past. Just last month, two such incidents resulted in the deaths of 60 migrants.
