BEIJING: In a tragic incident in Yunnan province, southwest China, a train struck railway workers early Thursday morning, resulting in 11 fatalities and two injuries, according to local railway officials. The accident occurred at Kunming’s Luoyang Town station.
The train, which was designated for seismic equipment testing, collided with construction workers who had entered the track area while the train was navigating a curve within the station premises. The Kunming Railway Bureau stated that the train was operating normally at the time of the collision.
Officials are currently investigating the exact cause of the accident. By midday, railway operations had resumed as usual, and those injured were receiving medical treatment.
This incident highlights ongoing safety concerns in China’s industrial sector, where accidents are frequent due to inconsistent safety regulations and lax enforcement.
