WASHINGTON: U.S. President Donald Trump criticized South African President Cyril Ramaphosa over allegations related to the violence against white farmers.
At White House Oval Office, South African President Cyril Ramaphosa and U.S. President Donald Trump engaged in a tense discussion surrounding claims of violence against white South Africans. The meeting was marked by sharp exchanges after Trump presented images alleging “white genocide” in South Africa.
During the briefing, President Trump showed photographs purportedly depicting violence targeting white South Africans, asserting that such incidents are evidence of systemic persecution. He referenced reports indicating increased violence against white farmers and minorities in South Africa.
President Ramaphosa responded firmly, refusing to accept the images as an accurate reflection of the country’s situation. He emphasized that South Africa’s constitution guarantees rights for all minorities and condemned violence directed at any community. “Violence is not only targeted at white people but affects all groups,” Ramaphosa stated, adding that most victims of crime in South Africa are black Africans.
The conversation took a lighter turn when Ramaphosa jokingly told Trump, “I do not have a plane to give you,” to which the U.S. president quipped, “If you offer it, I will certainly accept.”
