Trump announces increase in tariffs on India for buying oil from Russia

WASHINGTON: U.S. President Donald Trump has announced plans to further increase tariffs on India for purchasing oil from Russia. In a statement released on social media, Donald Trump said that India is not only buying large quantities of Russian oil but also making a profit by selling it.

Trump stated that India does not care about the number of people being killed by Russian forces in Ukraine. For this reason, he plans to raise tariffs on India even further.Yesterday, a U.S. official also accused India of buying oil from Russia and providing financial support to Russia in its ongoing war against Ukraine. Stephen Miller, the Deputy Chief of Staff at the White House and one of Trump’s influential advisors, said in an interview that President Trump has made it very clear that it is unacceptable for India to buy Russian oil and help sustain the war.

During an appearance on Fox News’ program “Sunday Morning Futures,” Stephen Miller said, “People will be surprised to learn that India’s purchase of Russian oil is practically on par with China. This is a shocking fact.”

It is worth noting that recently, President Trump announced a 25% trade tariff and additional penalties on India for purchasing weapons and energy from Russia. In response, India expressed disinterest in purchasing the F-35 stealth fighter jets from the U.S.Earlier, Trump also threatened to impose a 100% tariff on countries buying oil from Russia.
