Trump, Qatar’s Emir discuss Gaza peace deal as hamas weighs response

DOHA: Qatar’s Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad al-Thani engaged in a phone conversation with President Trump, during which he discussed Qatar’s efforts to facilitate peace in Gaza.

As per detail, The Emiri Diwan released a statement confirming the call, in which Sheikh Tamim reaffirmed Qatar’s support for diplomatic solutions and expressed optimism that the international coalition backing the plan could broker a fair resolution that ensures regional stability, security, and Palestinian rights.

Meanwhile, a senior Hamas official told the BBC that the militant organization is inclined to reject Trump’s peace initiative, claiming it primarily advances Israel’s interests and neglects Palestinian concerns. The official emphasized that Hamas refuses to disarm or surrender its weapons and opposes the deployment of an “International Stabilization Force” in Gaza—both of which are stipulations within Trump’s proposal.

The global community is awaiting Hamas’s formal response amid contrasting reports. A CBS report from Tuesday cited an informed source suggesting that Hamas and other Palestinian factions are considering accepting Trump’s plan. While no official decision has been announced, the group is said to be reviewing the proposal carefully, with some officials inside and outside Gaza involved in the assessment.

On Tuesday, President Trump issued a stern warning to Hamas, declaring that the group has “three or four days” to accept the peace plan or face severe consequences, warning that non-compliance could lead to significant escalation.

Earlier on Wednesday, a senior Hamas official indicated to the BBC that the group is likely to reject U.S. President Donald Trump’s proposed 20-point peace plan.
