Trump says Iran war nearing end, warns of intensified strikes

WASHINGTON: Donald Trump has claimed that the United States is close to achieving its key objectives in the ongoing war with Iran, while warning that military operations will intensify in the coming weeks.

In a televised address, Trump repeated his stance that the conflict is both necessary and nearing success, even as fighting continues into its fifth week. He asserted that decisive action over the next two to three weeks would bring the war to a conclusion.

“We are on track to complete all of America’s objectives very shortly,” Trump said, adding that US forces would “hit them extremely hard” and escalate operations if needed.

His remarks came shortly after he claimed that Tehran had sought a ceasefire an assertion swiftly denied by Iranian officials.

Despite projecting confidence and citing “overwhelming victories,” Trump offered few specifics on how the war would ultimately end or what terms Washington seeks in any potential agreement.

The US president also signaled a possible expansion of targets, warning that Iran’s energy infrastructure  including power plants could be struck if a deal is not reached.

“If no agreement is made, we will hit their key facilities very hard, and likely all at once,” he said.

The conflict, initially expected to last four to six weeks, now appears likely to extend further. Trump acknowledged rising fuel prices but did not outline a clear strategy for reopening the vital Strait of Hormuz, which remains under Iranian control.

While Washington claims significant progress, Iran continues to demonstrate military capability, including launching drones and missiles across the region, with officials in Tehran also asserting they are gaining the upper hand.

Meanwhile, public opinion in the United States remains largely opposed to the war, with recent polls showing limited support for continued military engagement.
