WASHINGTON: U.S. President Donald Trump has claimed that he had a phone conversation with Russian President Vladimir Putin to discuss the possibility of ending the ongoing Ukraine war.
During his presidential campaign, Trump vowed to bring an end to the conflict in Ukraine, though he has avoided detailing the specifics of how he would achieve this. Last week, he called the war a “bloodbath” and mentioned that his team had engaged in “some very good discussions” on the issue.
In an interview aboard Air Force One, when asked how many times he had spoken with Putin, Trump replied, “It’s better if I don’t say anything about that.” He also added, “Putin wants the killing to stop.”
Meanwhile, Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov, speaking to a Russian news agency, said, “Different sources are providing different information.” He further stated, “These communications happen through various channels, and it’s possible that I may not have all the details, so I cannot confirm or deny this news.”
