WEB DESK: Israeli President Isaac Herzog has announced that he will present US President Donald Trump with the country’s highest civilian award.
According to US media, Trump will be awarded the ‘Israeli Presidential Medal of Honor’ in recognition of his role in the release of hostages from Gaza and the end of the Israel-Hamas war.
“President Trump’s tireless efforts have not only led to the safe return of our loved ones, but they have also laid the foundation for a new era in the Middle East, one based on security, cooperation and the hope for lasting peace,” “Herzog said in a statement.”
He added that it would be a great honour for him to present the award to President Trump.
According to the announcement, the award will be presented in the next few months, while President Herzog will officially inform President Trump in Israel on Monday.
According to the Office of the President of Israel, the Presidential Medal of Honor is awarded to such individuals. Those who have rendered exceptional service to the State of Israel or to humanity.
The award was previously given to former President Barack Obama in 2013.
