WEB DESK: Turkish authorities have detained 357 individuals in a large-scale nationwide operation targeting the Islamic State (IS), according to Interior Minister Ali Yerlikaya. The arrests followed a violent eight-hour gunfight in Yalova, a coastal town along the Sea of Marmara south of Istanbul, which resulted in the deaths of three police officers and six militants.
The coordinated operation spanned 21 provinces, including 114 raids conducted in Istanbul and two other regions. Police confiscated digital materials and documents as part of their efforts to dismantle IS networks.
The Yalova confrontation occurred just a week after officials arrested over 100 suspected IS members linked to potential attacks planned for Christmas and New Year celebrations. During the siege in Yalova, eight police officers and one additional security personnel sustained injuries.
