Turkish first lady offers support to Pakistan amid flood crisis

WEB DESK: Emine Erdoğan, Turkey’s First Lady, has voiced her strong support for the victims of the recent floods in Pakistan, urging the international community to provide immediate aid to address the catastrophic impact on millions of lives.

In a message posted on social media platform X (formerly Twitter), she recalled her visit to Pakistan during the 2010 floods, where she witnessed the deep trauma and loss faced by countless families. “Turkey was among the first to lend a hand back then, and even now, our hearts, prayers, and support remain with the Pakistani people,” she wrote.

She also highlighted the efforts of the Turkish Red Crescent, which is closely monitoring the situation and coordinating relief efforts, including the provision of food, shelter, clean water, and medical assistance. Offering her prayers for the victims, she called on people worldwide to show compassion and stand in solidarity with Pakistan in this dire time of need.

Global Appeal for Support

Emine Erdoğan urged the global community to rise to the occasion, emphasizing that healing the wounds of the flood victims requires collective humanity and kindness. “In these moments of immense hardship, we must unite to restore hope and rebuild lives,” she said, appealing for a swift and coordinated response.

Flooding Devastates Punjab

According to the Punjab Disaster Management Authority (PDMA), the floods have submerged 1,769 villages, leaving over 1.23 million people affected. At least 248,000 individuals have been displaced, and ongoing rescue operations continue across the worst-hit regions, such as Mandi Bahauddin, Hafizabad, Nankana Sahib, and Rajanpur. Tragically, 28 people have lost their lives, but heroic rescue efforts by the army, Rangers, and Rescue 1122 have saved more than 148,000 animals and helped evacuate thousands to safer locations.

Relief Operations Underway

Relief teams are working around the clock to provide essential services like shelter, medical care, and food to those who have been displaced by the floods. Authorities have pledged to continue their efforts until every affected family has been safely rehabilitated and provided for, ensuring that no one is left behind.
