KARACHI: Karachi’s Gulshan-e-Iqbal police have arrested two men suspected of robbing passengers travelling in a rickshaw, officials said.
SSP East Zubair Nazir Shaikh identified the suspects as Nisar, son of Ghulam Shabbir, and Mujahid Hussain, son of Saeen Bux. He said the men allegedly picked up passengers and robbed them at gunpoint before fleeing with their mobile phones and other valuables.
Police said they recovered an illegal weapon and a snatched phone, and seized the rickshaw allegedly used in the robberies. A case has been registered.
The arrests come amid differing reports on Karachi’s crime trends. Sindh Police data shows overall reported offences rose slightly in the first half of 2026, while several vehicle-related crimes and other street robberies declined compared with the same period last year. Other figures, covering different time frames and categories, indicate sharp increases in motorcycle theft and snatching, alongside concerns about mobile-phone robberies and violence.
Officials have attributed reductions in some vehicle crimes to improved tracking and policing, while acknowledging that street crime and attacks on police remain concerns.
