RAWALPINDI: Two Pakistan Army soldiers embraced martyrdom during an intelligence-based operation (IBO), conducted in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s Buner district on Saturday.
According to the statement of Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) at least one terrorist was also killed and two others were injured in the skirmish.
During the operation, an intense exchange of fire took place between the troops. The martyred personnel were identified as Lance Havildar Mudassar Mehmood (age 36 yrs; resident of district Rawalpindi) and Lance Naik Haseeb Javed (age 27 yrs; resident of district Poonch, AJ&K).
Havildar Mudassar and Lance Naik Haseeb have been serving in the Pakistan Army for 16 and five years, respectively with the latter being survived by his parents, widow and a daughter.
The security forces, as per the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), conducted the IBO on the reported presence of terrorists which resulted in the elimination of terrorist and ring leader Saleem alias “Rabbani” while two other militants sustained injuries in the gun battle.
As per the military’s media wing, Rabbani, who had an Rs5 million bounty on his head, was involved in numerous terrorist activities against the security forces as well as extortion and target killings of innocent civilians
A sanitisation operation is under way to eliminate any other terrorists found in the area, the press release said.
The security forces have reaffirmed their commitment to wipe out the scourge of terrorism.
