KARACHI: The National Cyber Crime Investigation Agency (NCCIA) has detained two individuals suspected of working for India’s intelligence agency, Research and Analysis Wing (RAW), in Karachi.
Officials from NCCIA stated that the suspects were engaged in espionage activities, collecting intelligence on sensitive sites throughout the city. It was also revealed that the operatives shared classified images and videos of important locations on social media platforms in exchange for payments between Rs20,000 and Rs40,000.
During the raid conducted on October 9 near Mochko Road, authorities seized mobile devices and digital evidence related to financial transactions linked to the suspects. Forensic investigations confirmed communication between the suspects and RAW handlers.
The operation was carried out with the support of other law enforcement agencies, and a case has been registered against the individuals. Efforts are ongoing to identify and apprehend additional members of this network.
In a related case, an Anti-Terrorism Court (ATC) sentenced Saleem, an operative linked to RAW, to 114 years of imprisonment in connection with an explosives recovery case. The court also imposed a Rs150,000 fine, revoked his bail, and ordered his detention.
Prosecutors stated that Saleem was arrested by the Special Investigation Unit (SIU) from Karachi’s Mauripur area. During his arrest, authorities recovered hand grenades, Awan bombs, a launcher, and other illegal weapons from his possession.
Saleem reportedly admitted during interrogation that he had been working for RAW since at least 2012, and had traveled to India three times during that period for espionage activities. He also confessed to illegally entering Pakistan from India in 1989 and acquiring Pakistani identity documents and passports through forgery four Pakistani passports were recovered from him.
Further investigations revealed that before joining RAW, Saleem was employed as a rickshaw driver in the Indian city of Gujarat.
