SAHIWAL: The Counter Terrorism Department (CTD) on Tuesday arrested two alleged militants linked to the banned Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP), also referred to by authorities as Fitna-ul-Khawarij, during an intelligence-based operation in Sahiwal.
According to a CTD spokesperson, the suspects were identified as Mahtab Ahmed and Muhammad Shahid, both residents of Tank district.
The arrests were made after the CTD received information about the presence of the suspects, who were allegedly carrying a significant quantity of explosives, near Khushi Villas in the Fattu Mor area.
During the operation, officials recovered explosive material, five improvised explosive devices (IEDs), detonating cords, electric circuits and batteries from their possession.
The bomb disposal squad subsequently defused the live explosive material recovered during the raid.
The CTD said the suspects allegedly planned to carry out terrorist activities in the city with the aim of creating fear and panic among residents.
Officials said further questioning of the arrested suspects was in progress as investigators sought to determine their alleged links and planned activities.
