NEW YORK: The ten elected members of the U.N. Security Council have called for an emergency vote on a draft resolution demanding an immediate, unconditional, and permanent ceasefire in Gaza.
The resolution, scheduled for Wednesday, also urges the release of all hostages held by Hamas and other groups, and calls for the immediate lifting of restrictions on humanitarian aid entry into Gaza to ensure safe and widespread distribution, including efforts by the U.N.
The draft requires at least nine affirmative votes and no vetoes from the five permanent members—United States, Russia, China, Britain, and France—to pass.
