UK PM Vows To Quit Before Next Phase of Brexit If Deal Is Passed

LONDON: British Prime Minister Theresa May offered on Wednesday to quit in a bid to get her European Union divorce deal passed.

“I know there is a desire for a new approach – and new leadership – in the second phase of the Brexit negotiations – and I won’t stand in the way of that,” she told the backbench 1922 Committee.

“I am ready to leave this job earlier than I intended in order to do what is right for our country and our party,” she added.

Several past critics, including Boris Johnson, said they would now back Mrs. May’s plan, which Parliament has already overwhelmingly rejected twice.

The DUP’s decision now puts pressure on parliament to come up with a plan to prevent a “no-deal” Brexit on April 12, the new deadline set by Brussels last week.
