UN Security Council Honors Outgoing Pakistani Ambassador Munir Akram

NEW YORK: Ambassador Akram leaves his post at the end of this month when Ambassador Asim Iftikhar Ahmad takes over as the permanent representative of Pakistan to the UN.

Christina Markus Lassen, the President of the United Nations Security Council and Ambassador of Denmark, has commended Ambassador Munir Akram of Pakistan for his exceptional service and dedication during his tenure as the country’s permanent representative to the UN.

As she addressed the council on Friday, Ambassador Lassen stated, “It is with great respect that I extend my warmest tributes to our esteemed colleague, Ambassador Munir Akram, as he completes his tenure.”

She emphasized the collective gratitude of the council members, saying, “We are thankful for your unwavering cooperation and commitment to the Security Council and the larger United Nations framework. Your wisdom, breadth of knowledge, and warmth will be greatly missed. We wish you all the best in your future endeavors.”

On March 11, UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres also praised Ambassador Munir Akram’s “outstanding” contribution to multilateral diplomacy.

On his part, Ambassador Akram expressed gratitude for the UN’s support to the Pakistan Mission in promoting shared objectives. He was appointed to the current post in 2019.
