LONDON: In the United Kingdom, an unidentified person impersonated a naval admiral and attended a ceremony honoring soldiers who served in World War I, during which he laid flowers at a war memorial.
According to a British newspaper, the man was seen saluting the war memorial in Llandudno, North Wales, on Sunday. He was dressed in a rear admiral’s uniform adorned with 12 medals.
Authorities have not yet identified the individual, but it is noted that he has previously participated in various commemorative events.
The Royal Navy described this act as a “disrespect to former servicemen” and potentially a violation of the 1894 Uniforms Act. This legislation prohibits individuals who have not served in the armed forces from wearing military uniforms.
Experts also expressed doubt regarding the medals displayed on the man’s uniform, pointing out that some of the medals appear to be incorrectly worn together, which is considered improper according to military standards.
Additionally, the newspaper reported that the uniform itself was unusual; the man wore a white shirt with a cut collar, which is against Royal Navy regulations, and his coat’s sleeves were notably large.
A Royal Navy spokesperson stated that ” impersonating a naval officer is disrespectful to service personnel and could be considered a criminal offense.”
