NEW YORK: The United Nations Security Council on Friday passed a resolution demanding Israel to halt settlement activities on occupied Palestinian territory.
The resolution was tabled by New Zealand, Malaysia, Venezuela and Senegal. 14 member countries casted their votes in favor of the resolution. The resolution also condemned Israeli settlements on occupied West Bank and other areas of Palestinian territory.
It is pertinent to mention here that the United States refrained from voting on the resolution. While US president-elect Donald Trump and Republican leader in House of Representatives Chuck Schumer had demanded of the government to veto the resolution against Israeli settlements.
