Islamabad (August 19, 2017): General Joseph L. Votel, Commander U.S. CENTCOM, along with his delegation Saturday called on Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi here.

During the meeting, the bilateral relations between Pakistan and US, mutual cooperation and regional situation were discussed.

Pakistan efforts for establishing lasting peace and Pak-Indian tension were also discussed in the meeting.

 

The Prime Minister informed the visiting US delegation about the anti-terrorism operations being carried out by Pakistan and the unprecedented success it achieved in the action.

Foreign Minister Khawja Mohammad Asif, Defence Minister Khurrum Dastgir, NSA Gen (R) Nasir Janjua and Foreign Secretary were also present during the meeting.

Yesterday, the delegation called on Chief of Army Staff General Qamar Javed Bajwa.

“Matters of professional interest with special focus on security situation in Afghanistan were discussed,” ISPR said in astatement after the meeting.

The army chief highlighted the importance Pakistan accords to its relations with US, particularly security cooperation and efforts towards regional stability.

According to the statement,  General Bajwa said that Pakistan has undertaken operations against terrorists of all hue and colour. He reiterated his commitment to work in close coordination with Afghan security forces and US-led Resolute Support Mission (RSM) for improved security environment in Pakistan-Afghanistan border region.

While referring to Afghanistan and Pak-US relations, the army chief said that no other country has more interest for peace in Afghanistan than Pakistan.
