US Congress certifies Trump election victory with Harris presiding

Washington: On Monday, the U.S. Congress officially ratified the election victory of Republican President-elect Donald Trump during a session led by Democratic Vice President Kamala Harris, who was the runner-up in the November election.

According to the foreign news agency, Vice President Kamala Harris has announced that her rival Donald Trump won the November 2024 presidential election.

In the US, the result of the presidential election in the form of exit polls usually comes on the next day, but the Congress officially announces the success.

The attack on Congress by Donald Trump’s supporters on January 6, 2021 was an attempt to stop Biden’s endorsement, and until this event, the official victory of the presidential candidate was not given much importance.

Vice President Kamala Harris told reporters, by performing her constitutionally mandated duty to oversee the certification process as president of the Senate, she “did what I have done my entire career, which is take seriously the oath.”

“I do believe very strongly that America’s democracy is only as strong as our willingness to fight for it,” Harris said. “Every single person, their willingness to fight for and respect the importance of our democracy. Otherwise, it is very fragile and it will not be able to withstand moments of crisis. And today, America’s democracy stood.”

Harris, who has not given an interview since the election, told reporters gathered in the Capitol that Monday’s process “was about what should be the norm and what the American people should be able to take for granted, which is that one of the most important pillars of our democracy is that there will be a peaceful transfer of power.”
