TEHRAN: Iran has confirmed that its key nuclear installation at Natanz Nuclear Facility was targeted in a joint airstrike allegedly carried out by the United States and Israel, intensifying already high regional tensions.
According to a statement issued by the Atomic Energy Organization of Iran and reported by Tasnim news agency, the strike hit the Natanz enrichment complex earlier on Saturday. Iranian officials strongly condemned the attack, labeling it a “criminal act” by Washington and what they described as the “Zionist regime.”
Authorities, however, reassured the public that no radioactive material had leaked from the site. They emphasized that nearby populations remain safe and that environmental conditions are stable following the incident.
Situated roughly 220 kilometers southeast of Tehran, Natanz is considered the centerpiece of Iran’s uranium enrichment efforts and has frequently drawn international attention over concerns about its nuclear program.
The latest strike follows earlier damage to the facility during the opening phase of the June 2025 Iran-Israel conflict. At that time, satellite images revealed multiple structures within the complex had been hit, though officials did not fully disclose the scale of destruction.
