WEB DESK: The United States is reportedly considering the GBU-43/B Massive Ordnance Air Blast bomb, commonly known as the “Mother of All Bombs,” as one option if President Donald Trump orders renewed military action against Iran, according to media, citing officials familiar with the discussions.
The reported plans identify Iranian energy infrastructure and nuclear-related sites as possible targets. However, there has been no official confirmation that the bomb would be used. The weapon is designed for wide-area blasts, and sources cited in the report questioned its effectiveness against deeply buried facilities. Its use could also put civilians at risk.
The reported discussions come amid stalled diplomatic efforts and a shift toward economic pressure. The US previously used a MOAB in Afghanistan in 2017 against tunnel and bunker sites.
